Gloria J Zucaro's "Evening In Door County"

Well, I am happy to say that my son and his wife finally, after almost a year, sold their townhouse. I helped out a with packing up the smaller items that were used in the staging and taking them to their garage for a garage sale.  The movers took the furniture that was not bought by the buyers or friends in the neighborhood.
For Jenn's challenge this week at The Artist's Playroom-to "paint something you have been thinking about but haven't gotten around to"- I did this sunset from my photo taken while I was up in Door County Wisconsin one Fall.
I am also entering it and the charcoal portrait below the sunset to Paint Party Friday hosted by Kristin and Eva.  Please try to visit some of these links to see what other artists are working on.

First weeks lesson in portrait class
I have been looking forward to this class with friend and fellow artist Ann Feldman.  She does excellent portraits and says that they are her first love in painting.  But some of you might also know her from her entries into some of the Daily Paintworks challenges or her gallery on that site.  As you can see, the grid for sizing my portrait is still evident.  I think her right eye is a little wonky, but we will correct and then move on to another portrait next week.  Learning something new is the best!

  3. Hi Gloria..always a treat visiting you..gorgeous scene..the colors are so electric yet soft and peaceful..beautifully serene! and this portrait..wowness..fabulous! how exciting about the class..I am fascinated by portraiture! I look forward to seeing your work! I know it will be outstanding! There is a tv-show in Canada called Star Portraits and it is fun seeing three artists each week do a portrait on someone..then the sitter has to choose at the end of the show which of the three portraits to keep. it is wonderful seeing their process and their studios too! Fun!
    Beautiful post!

  5. gloria - as always, your art is beautiful! i love this first one especially!

pinterest - at the top of the main pinterest page there is a search box at the top left. type in a topic, say "zentangle" and enter.

that will open a new page and at the top left you will see the categories: pins, boards, and people. the photos you see are ones that are pinned as 'zentangle'. if you click on boards, it will open up a host of boards that various people like me have set up and entitled 'zentangle". click on any of those and you will be able to see that person's whole board of zentangle pins. if you click on people - i'm not sure what it does, because that one's never really worked for me.

other than that you just need hours to sit staring mindlessly at your computer, pinning the things you see that you like :) my main interest is zentangle so i have various boards set up for patterns, one for my own art work, one for zentangle videos, and i've done similar for art journaling. i even have several for recipes even though i don't know how to cook :) haha! i hope this helps explain some of it. i don't know what i was originally looking for, but i got drawn into art journaling first, which led to zentangle :)

  6. Congrats on your son and his wife selling their home. We're about to put ours on the market and I'm so nervous that it won't sell so it's good to hear a good news story!
The oil painting is stunning - those colours are wonderful. It looks like an amazing view and the sunset is magical!
The portrait is really good as well - the grid is a great idea for proportion/perspective.

  7. This is a lovely sunset, I think it is difficult to use black/dark colours yet still get the warmth that you have achieved. Very pretty.

  30. Hello Gloria:) This is beautiful! I love the colors and how the air is reflecting in the water. Wonderful job! Your portrait is beautiful. I had not seen it was your grid. I thought it were tiles:)I love the expression in her face, maybe because of that right eye? The shadows in the face are great! Very well done!
