The Fish Pitcher Value Study Challenge

Okay,Values clarified.  Mid value dominant, dark next and very light just a "smidge"
Fish bottom straightened!

6"H x6"W Oil on canvas board.
This is the Daily Paintworks Challenge for the week of May 21.  We were to do a value study of any object with a dominant value of either light, dark or mid being the dominant value.  I was aiming for light as dominant, with mid-value being the next dominant and dark being the less dominant.  However, if I had to cut this up in pieces and put each value in a pile, I am not sure how much difference there would be in the piles!  I think I may print this out, cut it up and see.  I may need to do another study!!   I may use the pitcher again, because I like it's unusual shape!

"Strange Selection" & Art In The Park

Art In The Park
Barrington, Illinois, Sunday, May 22, 2011
This past weekend some friends and I shared my ProPanels to display our oil paintings at Art In The Park in Barrington, Illinois.  It was a beautiful day and the event was well organized.  below are pictures from the fair.
Above is my friend Carol Fosters' front panel display. I neglected to get a picture of her pieces on the back of the panels.

A few of my pieces on a back panel.

This is Corrine Murphy's back of the panel view.

And finally, today's painting Called "Strange Selection"
I got the idea for this painting from the books I am currently reading.  They all are so different!  The top book is about computer espionage.  I picked it up when I was visiting my mother in San Antonio for Christmas and New Years.  She is at the ARC which is a retirement center for military retired officers.  My father was in the Air Force.  Near their post office, they have shelves of books with the idea that you can take one at any time.  I picked it up just before my return home to Illinois to read on the plane.  I read a little more after I returned, but haven't finished it yet...but I will!
Next is our current book club selection.  I am only a couple of chapters into it, but so far very interesting characters and stories.  It takes place in England right after WWII and is about letters exchanged by a city girl/woman and a country man who have a similar interest. I had better get busy with finishing this one as book club is on June 10th!
The next one, I am proud to say was written by my niece Rosslyn Elliot.  Rosslyn and her family formerly lived in Ohio, although they are now in Albuquerque.  The story is a romance based on two actual families of those times, the Hanby's and the Millers.  The story begins in Western Ohio in 1923, and I must say, is well written, Rosslyn.
Then there is the issue of the bookmarks!  One is my Amazon receipt from my pre-order of Rosslyn's book.  That is in her book.  The marker in "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie(I just noticed I left out PIE, Oh! No!)Society" is the library receipt telling me when to return it, and a plastic coated bookmark with Jesus on it holding a lamb in his arm with a biblical quotation from First Corinthians.
In the Tom Clancey novel I have an April 2011 calendar bookmark with a picture of George Bernard Shaw and his quotation "Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children."
By the way, this took me 3 days.  I had to wait for paint to dry enough to do the lettering, first in charcoal, then in paint.

So I would say a very strange selection.  Remind me never to take my lunch break when in the middle of painting a long title on a book!!

"Baby Silver"

6"H X 6"W   Oil on Raymar Canvas Panel   $65.00 unframed plus S&H

My mother received this sterling silver baby cup in the 1940's with my name engraved on it.  At the time these little cups or silver spoons were baby shower gifts.
It has been sitting in a closet for years, and I wonder if it was ever really used.  You certainly couldn't put juice in it, and I can picture a baby biting on the metal.

"The Artist Hard At Work" All About Me Challenge

8"H x 10"W  Oil on Raymar Canvas Panel

I really had fun with this Challenge from the Daily Paintworks site.  We were to paint a self-portrait strictly for fun.  I had another artist friend take a picture of me with a fake flower behind my ear and a paintbrush in my teeth.  Too bad I didn't put in the roll of paper towels that is always securely stuck under my left armpit!

Gloria J Zucaro's "Fish On Glass"

6"H x 6"W       Oil on Raymar canvas panel
To Purchase,email me at gloria@gloriajzucaro.com

Here is my second and more "finished" fish on a glass ball.  I really like both this one and "The Fish From Outer Space"...completely different feel to them.  You might be asking about now...what's with all the fish.  Before I moved to my townhouse, I lived on a "farmette" and had a fish pond with koi, goldfish, shebukin, orfs, and channel catfish.  I really enjoyed my fish and when I moved to my townhouse I bought a tropical fish tank and fish, then at a garage sale another tank for a fancy tail gold fish, then a 120 gallon tank for the basement which meant I could have some small koi and goldfish down there in my tiki room.  Well, after a few years I had had enough of all sorts of equipment used for cleaning fish tanks.  Plus when I would go away for a few days, I would come back and one of the koi would have jumped out of the tank and was dried up on the floor.  I sold everything on Craig's list including the fish and all my sharks teeth from Venice Florida!!

Gloria J Zucaro's "Lucy's Lava Lamp"

7"H x 5"W x 1.50"D   Oil on gallery wrapped canvas.

To Purchase,email me   gloria@gloriajzucaro.com

This Lava Lamp is the original version.  My daughter asked her brother for it for her birthday in April.  She celebrated at my house and we had it turned on to start the wax melting.  She had to leave it at my house because it was still hot, so I have been looking at it every day.  I finally decided to try to paint it.  What a challenge! I stuggled to get the bright fuchia and burning orange and to make the liquid a luminous violet.  I might try this again with pastels.  The lamp is mesmerizing to watch.
